About Me

I was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina. I spent most of my childhood camping, hiking, playing sports, and making wild homemade contraptions. Even from a young age I was always creating the craziest things like trebuchets, homemade scuba tanks, BB-guns, tree houses, and modified RC toys, just to name a few. The ability to combine common objects with a little bit of creativity, science, and math to make something completely new was an amazing feeling.

My passion for wanting to understand the inner workings of everything around me and using that knowledge to solve problems is what made me want to purse an engineering degree. Out of all the engineering fields, the mechatronics engineering program especially excited me. Mechatronics engineering is unique in that it involves learning about several areas of engineering including mechanical, electrical, computer, and control. Knowing about how these systems work and interact with each other helps to optimize the outcome in ways not normally obvious.

My love for engineering is strongly reflected in many of my personal interests and hobbies. Building customized high-speed racing drones is one of my favorite hobbies. Whether I’m optimizing weight to improve performance, or tuning the PIDs to achieve perfect handling, drones are a perfect example of my engineering skills being channeled into my passion. Another great example is the robotic arm I built from scratch simply to further understand how they work. I could have ordered a kit to assemble offline, or just bought one from amazon, but instead I designed and redesigned to learn more about their innerworkings and challenges.  Examples of both can be seen on my portfolio page.

I am excited to use my knowledge and passion to help further advance modern day technologies. I am particularly interested in cutting edge technologies, whether that be optimizing navigation of autonomous craft, exploring other bodies in our solar system from millions of miles away, or building a robotic system tuned to do exactly what you want. These are areas that I dream I can one day be a part of in the future. I am currently expected to graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering in May 2025.
